To make you feel at home

The namesake “Baraga” is an eponym derived from the old first peoples’ Dhurga language of the Yuin people. Felicity and Phil named this home Baraga out of their deep respect for the Aboriginal people as the Traditional Owners and occupants of this beautiful place of land and water.

Our Story

Meet your hosts, Felicity and Philip Coates. Hailing from Sydney's Northern Beaches, Felicity and Phil first set eyes on Bermagui in 2002 while on their tenth wedding anniversary. They immediately fell in love with Barragga Bay from their first crossing over the historic timber-built Cuttagee Bridge.

In 2010, they escaped the fast pace of Sydney to make their dreams a reality on the coast. They finally purchased the property in 2018, which they lovingly renamed Baraga Sanctuary. At the time, it was in a poor state of disrepair. Between them, they stripped the building back to its bones and thoughtfully restored it, ensuring sustainability practices throughout as they created a modernised version of the original structure.

The house is an architecturally designed, environmentally friendly 3-storey pole home. Originally built in the early 1980’s it was completely renovated in 2020 -21 in respect of all internal building material components, services and landscaping.

There are spacious living areas throughout, with generous floor-to-ceiling spaces and plenty of natural light. The kitchen/living areas are supported by a large, partially covered north-facing deck, which provides the basis for some great outdoor living and entertainment. Even a heated outdoor shower is provided for your convenience.

The designer kitchen features stainless steel benchtops, a gas cooker/electric oven, rangehood, dishwasher, and microwave, making it a perfect place to unwind/relax in style and comfort, spending days and evenings outdoors and indoors.
